Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) quipped that she “would have won” if she and Steve Bannon had organized the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Greene addressed accusations that she gave rioters tours of the Capitol complex and planned the riot, speaking at a New York Young Republican Club gala on Saturday night.

“I come to Washington, I swear in on Jan. 3. I get accused of giving insurrection tours, which I thought was hilarious because I couldn’t even find the bathroom in the Capitol, true story. Then, Jan. 6 happens, and next thing you know, I organized the whole thing along with Steve Bannon, and I want to tell you something. If Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention, it would’ve been armed,” Greene said.

Greene cast doubt about the political affiliations of those who rioted at the Capitol, saying conservatives would not have gone to the riot without guns.

“See, that’s the whole joke, isn’t it? They say that whole thing was planned, and I’m like, are you kidding me? A bunch of conservatives, Second Amendment supporters went in the Capitol without guns, and they think we organized that? I don’t think so,” Greene said.

Greene, who is an avid supporter of former President Donald Trump, has previously said she believes the rioters at the Capitol were antifa and has consistently asserted she was not a part of the riot but rather a victim. Greene was present at the Capitol complex that day in her capacity as a member of Congress.

Liberal activists and commentators on Twitter erupted over Greene’s comments, with Keith Olbermann calling for authorities to “arrest and indict” her for “another threat to overthrow the government of the United States” and John Pavlovitz calling her “a national security threat.”

Greene also said at the event that she is “fired up” about the new Republican majority “after the past two years of suffering under Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats.” The Georgia congresswoman is set to have committee assignments again after the Democratic majority stripped her of them in February 2021.
