Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested Sunday night on felony domestic violence charges, jeopardizing his availability for the duration of the MLB season and the playoffs.
Urias, 27, was released early Monday morning on a $50,000 bond, and he is expected in court on Sept. 27, according to an ESPN report. The nature of the incident leading to the arrest was not known.

This is Urias’s second arrest related to domestic violence. In 2019, LA prosecutors declined to pursue misdemeanor charges against the pitcher following an arrest in May of that year, on the condition that he complete a yearlong domestic violence counseling program.

The latest arrest likely means Urias will not play again for the duration of the season since MLB players who are under investigation for domestic violence are typically placed on administrative leave, according to league policy. The playoffs are set to begin on the first week of October, and the Dodgers sit at the top of their division standings.
Urias, a Mexican national, has had an up-and-down season that has seen his ERA balloon to 4.60 over 117 1/3rd innings from a low of 2.16 last year, which was the best mark in the National League. He is slated to become a free agent at the conclusion of the season.
