Voters don’t want a repeat of the 2020 presidential election

Democrats are rallying around President Joe Biden for the 2024 election. Former President Donald Trump wants Republicans to fall in line behind him again.
But voters don’t want either of the old losers to run again.

Several polls make it clear that voters want neither man to run again in 2024, and they certainly don’t want to see a 2020 rematch. On the Democratic side, a Marist poll found that 46% of Democrats think a Democrat other than Biden offers them the best chance of winning, and 54% want a candidate other than Biden to be nominated. A Fox News poll found that 54% of registered voters would vote for a candidate other than Biden in 2024, with just 33% wanting to reelect the unpopular, bumbling president.
The only Democrat people want to see run less than Biden is his own vice president. A Quinnipiac poll found that Kamala Harris has a favorability rating of just 28%, well below Biden’s abysmal 38%.
Meanwhile, the GOP’s choice for 2024 is clear to everyone except some GOP voters. A Marquette Law School poll found that 63% of voters want the party’s nominee to be Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), while just 36% want Trump. DeSantis leads Trump among GOP-leaning voters 55%-45%. Marist found that 52% of Republicans think their best chance of winning is dumping Trump, and Quinnipiac had voters overall preferring DeSantis to Trump 43%-29%, with Republican voters split 44%-44%.
Voters have made it clear how they feel about both Trump and Biden. Trump was given a loss, and Republicans then struggled in the midterm elections as voters rejected the poor candidates he had endorsed in the primaries. Biden’s approval rating is still in the toilet, and even Democratic candidates wanted him to stay away during the midterm elections to avoid sinking their campaigns. Both men are electorally toxic. Voters also don’t want to choose between a Republican who will be 78 in 2024 and a Democrat who will be 82.

Republicans already have an alternative in DeSantis. They would be fools not to choose him. That is especially true as Democrats embrace the unpopular old man in the White House and his even more unpopular vice president.
Voters are making it clear that they want to move on from everyone involved in the 2020 presidential election. Both Trump and the Democratic Party want to live in the past. Republicans shouldn’t join them.
