White House pans ‘stunningly bad’ outcomes for Republican Senate hopefuls

The White House slammed Republican efforts in the Senate midterm elections as “stunningly bad,” charging that voters had put “to rest” the party’s agenda.
Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) won Georgia’s runoff on Tuesday, closing the midterm election cycle and delivering Democrats a 51-49 split in the Senate. The result marks the first time since 1934 that no incumbent senator from the president’s party lost reelection in a midterm cycle.

President Joe Biden’s press secretary said the Republican platform had hamstrung their efforts to sway voters, with the electorate fearing changes to Social Security, Medicare, and abortion rights, among other issues.
“It was a stunningly bad cycle for Republican senators, and a lot of that is because of their agenda, is because they embodied the ultra-MAGA ideas,” Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, invoking the attacks leveled by the White House during the cycle against Republicans faithful to former President Donald Trump. “The American public came out, and they put a lot of that to rest.”
Biden elevated his polarizing former and potential future rival throughout the midterm elections in an attempt to secure Democrats an electoral advantage. Trump’s endorsements, which included Georgia Republican Senate nominee Herschel Walker, came under fire after several high-profile losses. While Republicans gained control of the House, the party is now weighing the disappointing outcomes of close Senate races that tilted in Democrats’ favor.
Jean-Pierre said Democrats, by contrast, delivered a “sharp message” that touted the president’s legislative achievements.

“The American people spoke very loud and clear,” she added.
