Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called House Republicans’ efforts to open an impeach inquiry into President Joe Biden a “waste of time.”
“This is frivolous. This is a diversionary tactic,” the Democrat said on MSNBC on Friday. “I’m so proud of the Democrats in the Congress,” she added. The party “fully intends to take back the House” so they don’t have to deal with the “waste of time” caused by Congress members pushing impeachment.

The California Democrat highlighted Biden’s economic record, dubbed Bidenomics, which allies and the administration have been framing as the “strongest economic recovery” the country has ever experienced.
“We’re talking about 13.4 million jobs created with Joe Biden in the White House and working with the congressional Democrats,” Pelosi said. “[Republicans] have to change the subject, and they have nothing to offer the American people in terms of jobs, and the rest, they talk about it, but then they change the subject when it’s time to deliver.”
Former President Donald Trump was arraigned and pleaded not guilty at a Washington, D.C., courtroom on Thursday, following his third indictment on charges of attempting to subvert the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Pelosi said Trump looked like “a scared puppy” when he arrived at his arraignment. “I didn’t see any bravado or confidence or anything like that. He knows. He knows the truth that he lost the election, and now, he’s got to face the music.”
Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry into Trump in 2019 and agreed to move forward with another impeachment in 2021 following the attacks on the Capitol on Jan. 6.
The lawmaker said she was proud of the Jan. 6 select committee members for creating “a path for us to get to this place to seek the truth.” Pelosi was one of the seven Democrats and two Republicans on the committee that ultimately referred Trump for four crimes in his role at the Capitol insurrection.

House Democrats wasted no time following Trump’s court appearance before calling on the Judicial Conference to ask for the case to be broadcast, despite the federal district court in Washington never allowing cameras. When asked whether or not Pelosi supports her fellow party members’ request, she said there were arguments to be made on both sides.
“I would leave that up to the Justice Department,” Pelosi said. “I don’t give them advice.”
