The National Republican Congressional Committee is warning a vulnerable Maine Democrat that it plans to use a recent visit to his state by President Joe Biden against him in the 2024 election.

During a trip to Maine last week, Biden complimented Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), saying, “You’re doing a great job, pal.”

Golden is a relatively centrist Democrat representing a district that was won by former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

The NRCC is now hoping to use the optics of his appearance with Biden and the president’s compliment as ammunition against the Democrat in his reelection bid.

The committee previewed their plan to Golden on Friday by delivering the congressman a framed photo of himself and the president with the note, “Coming to an ad near you. – NRCC.”

In 2022, Golden beat his Republican challenger by just under 20,000 votes.

While the district is represented by a Democrat, it defied New England norms by voting for Trump twice, in both 2016 and 2020.

Republican Rob Cross announced a challenge to the Democrat in the spring, saying, “As a husband, father, and new grandfather, I’m working to ensure the next generation of Americans can enjoy the freedom, prosperity, and security past generations fought so hard to gain and protect.”
