Vice President Kamala Harris spun July’s underwhelming jobs report into a strong endorsement of President Joe Biden‘s economic platform.
Harris was speaking in the Congressional Heights neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C., to announce new federal grants for more than 43 organizations that help “underserved entrepreneurs grow and scale small businesses.”
BIDEN AND REPUBLICANS DUKE IT OUT TO DEFINE THE ECONOMY
Still, when addressing the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the vice president claimed that the 187,000 jobs added in July, the lowest figure since 2020, proved the efficacy of Bidenomics.
“Last month, we created 187,000 new jobs,” she stated, noting that unemployment has been below 4% for more than 12 months straight. “That means today, 187,000 more Americans are able to go to work to provide for their family and invest in their future.
“Today’s numbers reflect the point that President Biden has made many times America’s economy is strong and experiencing stable and steady growth,” Harris continued. “In fact, since we took office, we have created more than 13 million new jobs. In two and a half years, we have created more jobs, more new jobs than any other administration has created in four.”
Biden similarly ignored the July jobs report failing to meet expectations Friday in his own statement.
“Unemployment near a record low and the share of working-age Americans who have jobs at a 20-year high: that’s Bidenomics. Our economy added 187,000 jobs last month, and we’ve added 13.4 million jobs since I took office — more jobs added in 2 1/2 years than during any president’s four-year term,” the president wrote while on vacation in Delaware.
He continued: “The unemployment rate is 3.5%, marking a full year and half below 4%. This follows recent news that our economy continues to grow, while inflation has fallen by nearly two-thirds and is at its lowest level in more than two years. We’re growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up, lowering costs for hardworking families, and making smart investments in America.”

The grants Harris announced Friday are part of the $125 million Capitol Readiness Program, authorized through Biden’s American, and will be awarded to nonprofits, education institutions, and other private sector entities.
