The night before his arraignment on charges related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, former President Donald Trump condemned President Joe Biden, special counsel Jack Smith, and the “anti-Trump” city of Washington, D.C.
Trump instead suggested that the arraignment in “the latest Fake ‘case'” be held in the “politically unbiased nearby State of West Virginia!” and said he has called for a “Federal TAKEOVER” due to the problems he sees in the nation’s capital.
DONALD TRUMP INDICTED: THREE TAKEAWAYS FROM FORMER PRESIDENT’S THIRD INDICTMENT
“The latest Fake ‘case’ brought by Crooked Joe Biden & Deranged Jack Smith will hopefully be moved to an impartial Venue, such as the politically unbiased nearby State of West Virginia!” the former president wrote on Truth Social.
“IMPOSSIBLE to get a fair trial in Washington, D.C., which is over 95% anti-Trump, & for which I have called for a Federal TAKEOVER in order to bring our Capital back to Greatness. It is now a high crime embarrassment to our Nation and, indeed, the World. This Indictment is all about Election Interference!!!” Trump added.
The 2024 Republican presidential front-runner will be arraigned Thursday afternoon on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. Six other “co-conspirators” were listed but not named in the indictment.
The arraignment will take place at a courthouse located between the White House and Capitol and is close enough to the latter that police took the preemptive security measure to put up fencing on Wednesday around the government building.
A multitude of Republicans have criticized the case against Trump and excoriated it as politically motivated, specifically contrasting the Justice Department’s treatment of the former president with Joe Biden amid the ongoing investigation into him and his son.
Trump is also not the only Republican to question the fairness of the arraignment taking place in D.C. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) appeared on Fox News’s Hannity on Wednesday night, and both men lambasted the trial taking place there as unfair.

“Lindsey Graham, you know the odds of him winning in Washington, D.C., are next to zero. Five percent of the population in D.C. voted for Trump. In New York City, 12%; in Fulton County, Georgia, 26%. Do you think he can get a fair trial in those venues? I do not believe he can,” host Sean Hannity asked the South Carolina Republican.
“Well, Sean, any conviction in D.C. against Donald Trump is not legitimate,” Graham flatly answered. “The judge in this case hates Trump. You can convict Trump of kidnapping Lindbergh’s baby in D.C.!”
“You need to have a change of venue. You need a new judge. And we need to win in 2024 to stop this crazy crap,” he added.

Trump is also being investigated in Fulton County, Georgia, for a possible fourth indictment on charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
The former president was given his first indictment in Manhattan in March on charges related to business records falsification and then in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in June for charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents. He is the first president, current or former, to be indicted.
