A super PAC committed to ousting Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has launched a new advertisement attacking the senator for a trip he took to Cancun in the middle of a winter storm in Texas.

The new seven-figure super PAC, the Lose Cruz PAC, was launched by Democrats last month and released its ad on Tuesday. The hit, titled “Find Your Beach,” features a Cruz look-alike actor sitting on a beach, listening to coverage of the Texas storm.

“This morning, the humanitarian crisis in Texas is accelerating,” the ad said, featuring a 2021 clip covering the severe weather. “Billions still without power or water, hospitals around the state push to their brink and the death toll is rising.”

The ad ends with Cruz tossing his phone in the sand while criticism of the senator’s trip plays on the speaker and closes with the words “Make Ted’s Vacation Permanent.”

“Senator Ted Cruz made time for a family vacation in the middle of our state’s historic winter storm,” the ad said. “The images were everywhere today showing the Texas senator with his family boarding that flight to Mexico. This is inexcusable and Texas should be outraged.”

Cruz faced intense backlash for leaving his state in 2021 to attend a family vacation to Mexico amid freezing temperatures and damaging winds that left at least 210 dead, according to the state’s comptroller.

Republicans and Democrats are focused on flipping Senate seats, and maintaining the ones they currently hold, in 2024. Cruz narrowly defeated Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke in the battle for the Senate in 2018, and has been polling as widely unpopular in his state.

The race to oust Cruz is filling up, with multiple high-profile Democratic candidates in the running. State Sen. Roland Gutierrez entered the competition in July, joining state Rep. Colin Allred.

The Washington Examiner has reached out to Cruz for comment.
