Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) said that while he will support former President Donald Trump if he emerges as the Republican candidate ahead of the 2024 presidential election, he doesn’t believe he’ll receive the nomination.
“I’m gonna support the Republican. There’s no question about that,” Sununu said on Hugh Hewitt’s conservative radio show on Monday. “But he’s not going to be the nominee, he’s really not.”

Sununu is one of the strongest Trump critics in the Republican Party and was rumored to be a GOP candidate himself before announcing he would not run earlier this month, emphasizing that beating Trump is more important for the party.
Trump fired back after Sununu’s comments Monday morning, saying the New Hampshire governor opted out of the 2024 presidential race because he has “no chance of winning
“The people of New Hampshire have gotten wise to Chris Sununu, and they no longer like or respect him,” Trump posted to Truth Social. “I never liked him, but always did whatever he asked for the state, because I wanted to help New Hampshire, and I did!”
Sununu also announced he would not seek reelection in the New Hampshire gubernatorial race, adding that he can be more useful by focusing on the bigger picture for the Republican Party.
“Look, after he loses, I don’t think he’s going quietly,” Sununu said. “He’s kind of a crybaby in that sense. He’s always — have you seen his speeches?”

Sununu attacked Trump’s record during his presidency, implying Trump failed to deliver on his campaign promises and didn’t get “anything done” when the Republican Party had a majority in both the House and the Senate.
“He had Republicans in the House and Senate,” Sununu said. “He didn’t build the wall, right? He didn’t show any fiscal discipline, adding $6 trillion, right? Where was the draining of the swamp?”
