Actress Jamie Lee Curtis has defended her transgender child Ruby’s “right to exist” from anyone who claims otherwise.

The Halloween and Knives Out actress discussed her dislike for how people have “demonized” transgender people, which she described as “awful” and “terrifying.” Curtis’s statement comes after she revealed in 2021 that her child Ruby, a biological male, now identified as a transgender woman, according to a report.

“At the bottom line, life is about love,” Curtis said. “Being a parent is about love. And I love Ruby.”

Curtis said people have come to her to praise her for accepting Ruby as transgender, to which Curtis would respond by asking, “What are you talking about?”

“This is my daughter,” the actress said. “This human being has come to me and said, ‘This is who I am.’ And my job is to say, ‘Welcome home.’ I will fight and defend her right to exist to anyone who claims that she doesn’t. And there are those people.”

The actress added that she reminds herself that she does not know everything and tries to hear both sides of an argument. Curtis said she goes to teachers and other people, asking them to “please educate me” so she can learn about an issue and also learn what “the other opinion is.”

Last month, Curtis shared a video on Instagram that was recorded at a gift shop in Disneyland, where she wore a pair of Mickey Mouse ears with Pride colors. She then bought some of the ears for her family.

“I love the way the Disney gently supports and INCLUDES ALL of their patrons,” Curtis wrote.
