Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s former business partner, arrived on Monday on Capitol Hill, where he will give testimony before the House Oversight Committee.
Republicans have pushed for the longtime friend of the president’s son to testify in the investigation into Biden’s foreign business deals.
HUNTER BIDEN INVESTIGATION: WHY THE DEVON ARCHER TESTIMONY IS SO IMPORTANT
Archer’s testimony was encouraged by multiple GOP leaders who believe he could provide insight into President Joe Biden’s alleged involvement in multiple business calls during his vice presidency with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, in which his son was a board member.
The head of Burisma denied having contact with then-Vice President Joe Biden during Hunter Biden’s employment. Joe Biden also dismissed allegations that he assisted his son with business dealings.
His testimony comes amid Hunter Biden’s plea deal falling apart last week as his plan to enter a guilty plea with the Department of Justice unraveled. Prosecutors originally recommended probation for the tax violations, and Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to federal tax charges.
House members have accused the DOJ of trying to obstruct the GOP’s investigation after the department sent a letter to Archer’s lawyer this week, urging him to serve his sentence in an unrelated tax fraud case.

Archer agreed to testify last week after calling off his deposition three times. He was subpoenaed on June 12 by the House Oversight Committee. Chairman James Comer (R-KY) sent a letter to Archer’s lawyers, pushing the importance of his testimony to the case. “Mr. Archer was Hunter Biden’s business partner in a number of transactions involving foreign nationals and foreign companies.”
It is unclear what the current status of Hunter Biden and Archer’s relationship is after the pair had been friends for decades.
