Roseanne Barr spars with Bill Mitchell over 2024 Republican nomination

Conservative comedian Roseanne Barr got into a back-and-forth debate with Bill Mitchell, a supporter of Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) presidential run, as the two bickered over former President Donald Trump’s chances of winning the 2024 Republican primary.
Mitchell, who hosts the YourVoice America podcast, had invited Barr to debate him live after she replied to several of his social media posts criticizing Trump. Barr turned down the offer, arguing that debating a “no-name” like Mitchell would “only help” him.

“If there was someone as or more famous than me I’d gladly do it, slumming for your view count is beneath me,” Barr wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Also, I don’t care who you vote for — I had no idea what your stance even was. All I know is your takes are horrible and we all make fun of you. Stop trying to gain relevance off me, take your whooping like a big boy and hush.”
The feud between Barr and Mitchell started when the former replied to a social media post from Mitchell asking if destroying evidence while under a subpoena was a crime, with Barr stating it was not “if you’re a Clinton.” In another post, Mitchell condemned Trump for the time he took to condemn the violence that took place during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protest, with Barr responding by claiming that Democratic lawmakers took months to respond to the violence that occurred during the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020.

Mitchell eventually took notice of Barr’s responses and joked that she “used to be famous,” adding that her original show was canceled in 1997. Barr then responded by saying that her show was “rebooted to 24 million,” referencing the reboot her show received in 2018 before it was canceled after one season.

Mitchell joked that Barr had turned down his offer for a live debate by saying that she “chickened out,” adding that he was “unsurprised” by the outcome.

Barr’s 2018 reboot was canceled after she mocked former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, writing on social media that, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” Her social media post was condemned by ABC, with the network saying her comment was “abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values.”

“They just tried to kill me, and I felt like they killed my character,” Barr told the Megyn Kelly Show during an appearance in May. ”I thought they wanted me to kill myself, and all my friends did, too. They said, ‘They’re trying to push you to suicide.’”
The debate among conservatives over who should be the 2024 presidential nominee has largely come down to Trump and DeSantis, though Trump is currently leading DeSantis by a large margin. In a new Marquette Law School poll, nearly half of Republicans maintained their support for Trump as the Republican nominee, while DeSantis continued to lose ground in the survey.
