DeSantis campaign lays off staffer who included Nazi symbol in pro-DeSantis video

A staffer who embedded a Nazi symbol into the background of a video of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), shared through a pro-DeSantis Twitter account, was among those dismissed in the DeSantis administration’s latest round of layoffs on Tuesday.
Nate Hochman, a speechwriter with the DeSantis campaign, was among those fired just days after he created and shared a video of the governor in front of a Sonnenrad. It is not clear if the video was the reason for his termination, but he was one of 38 employees laid off.

“Nate Hochman is no longer with the campaign,” a DeSantis campaign official told the Washington Examiner. “We will not be commenting on him further.”
Hochman allegedly made the video independently on Saturday on a Twitter account that supported the Florida governor, which Hochman then retweeted before it was deleted, according to Axios.

DeSantis laid off approximately a third of his campaign staff on Tuesday in an attempt to streamline operations ahead of the primaries.
“Following a top-to-bottom review of our organization, we have taken additional, aggressive steps to streamline operations and put Ron DeSantis in the strongest position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden,” campaign manager Generra Peck said in a statement. “Governor DeSantis is going to lead the Great American Comeback and we’re ready to hit the ground running as we head into an important month of the campaign.”
