Former President Donald Trump would claim the battleground state of Michigan if the 2024 presidential election were held today.

Trump holds a massive lead over his Republican opponents with the support of 69% of likely Michigan voters, according to a Mitchell Research and Communications poll. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who has been trialing the current GOP front-runner, came in with 13% of support in Michigan, marking a considerable discrepancy of 56 points behind Trump.

All other Republican candidates gathered single-digit support — former Vice President Mike Pence ranked third with 3%, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) garnered 2%, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley had 1%. The poll showed 11% of voters were undecided.

The survey was taken among general election voters from July 11 to 13, days before Trump revealed he was the target of a Jan. 6 criminal investigation after receiving a letter Sunday from special counsel Jack Smith.

President Joe Biden maintained his lead over Trump in the Wolverine State, which Biden won in the 2020 election, gathering 50.6% support from voters. The poll shows Biden leading Trump in a matchup by a margin of 45% to 43%.

Trump visited Michigan in June for the first time since announcing his third presidential run last year. He was honored as “Man of the Decade” at the Oakland County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner last month, a county he’s lost twice.
