California wants nation to start pondering climate lockdowns

You may correctly see California’s regular blackouts as a failure of environmentalist energy policy, but some climate-obsessed liberals see them differently. They see a whole new strategy to “save” the planet: climate lockdowns.
The idea has now made its way to the Los Angeles Times, courtesy of the outlet’s climate newsletter, which asked, “Would it be easier and less expensive to limit climate change … if we were willing to live with the occasional blackout?” This needs to be asked, of course, because California’s renewable energy plan is a massive failure, with the state begging people to stop using electricity to avoid blackouts while shunning clean, efficient nuclear energy.

The outlet then acknowledged that the biggest problem with this insulting proposal, summed up by a former Los Angeles energy official: “Someone dies every time we have a power outage.” After much hemming and hawing, the piece reached the conclusion that “maybe learning to live with more power outages shouldn’t be one of those sacrifices” that the peasants may need to make, including not eating meat and destroying wildlife habitats for solar farms.
“But at the same time,” we are told, “we might not have a choice.” Maybe we can do better “at keeping people safe during blackouts,” but some of you may have to live (or not) with regular climate lockdowns. We have a planet to save, and every option must be on the table. Everything except clean nuclear energy, which is far more reliable than wind and solar. Nuclear energy is too scary for California’s environmentalists.

That means you’ll have to live (or not) with regular blackouts until the state figures out how to keep its energy grid running on just wind and solar when it can’t even do so using the gas plants that provide 42% of the state’s energy that it wants to eliminate. Enjoy!
The lockdowns that were imposed during the pandemic to “slow the spread” were defended as being a small sacrifice and necessary because we must “follow the science” to save lives. Naturally, the idea of climate lockdowns would never be too far behind. The idea has already been floated among academics and politicians in Europe, and now it’s in the Los Angeles Times. With climate activists becoming more frantic over their made-up doomsday predictions, this won’t be the last time you hear about the idea either.
