Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) became the butt of a series of jokes made about his video commemorating National Hot Dog Day.
In the video, the senator is seen wearing a hot dog hat while walking down a hallway in the Capitol building with a hot dog in hand, complete with a ketchup drizzle. Romney shared it on his Twitter account Wednesday for the holiday.

“Well, as you all know, today is National Hot Dog Day, and perhaps you also know that hot dog is my favorite meat,” Romney says in the video. “I love hot dogs. I love ’em in buns, I love ’em outside of buns, I love ’em with baked beans, I just like hot dogs. It’s the best meat there is, without question.”
Romney was referring to news coverage in 2018 that revealed his favorite meat is a hot dog, and his second favorite is a hamburger. The comment was made at a campaign dinner ahead of his election to the Senate.
“So to all of you who like me are celebrating National Hot Dog Day, congratulations to you, and may there be many, many more hot dogs served in our wonderful land,” Romney said.
“He’s straight up trolling and I have to give him credit for that,” reporter Eli McMann tweeted.

“Is this AI?” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) responded.

“Mitt Romney’s go-to is silence. On sending troops to Ukraine? Silence. On continued weaponization of the justice department? Silence. We’re thrilled to at least know where he stands on hot dogs, though,” Riverton, Utah Mayor Trent Staggs wrote. Staggs is running for Romney’s seat.
