Avatar director James Cameron claimed that testosterone is “a toxin” that needs to be worked out of one’s system in a recent interview.

“I always think of [testosterone] as a toxin that you have to slowly work out of your system,” he said.

“A lot of things I did earlier, I wouldn’t do — career-wise and just risks that you take as a wild, testosterone-poisoned young man,” Cameron added, reflecting on his earlier choices.

The director was referring to his fights with Disney executives over budgeting and the earning potential of his films. According to him, he no longer has shouting matches laced with F-bombs with the executives.

Cameron’s comments evoked a reaction from social media, even garnering a response from new Twitter owner and billionaire Elon Musk.

“Testosterone rocks ngl,” Musk replied to a tweet.

Cameron’s new film, Avatar: The Way of Water, comes out on Dec. 16. It had a budget of $250 million, compared to the original Avatar, which had a $237 million budget.

Avatar holds the record for overall highest-grossing film with a gross revenue of $2.749 billion. Titanic, the classic also directed by Cameron, was the first film to pass the billion-dollar mark.

News of the shake-up at Disney, which saw the reinstatement of CEO Bob Iger, reached the Avatar production just weeks before release. However, it didn’t throw the team off, with producer Jon Landau saying, “Bob Iger was part of wooing us in the beginning.”

“He saw a value in Avatar across the company. We’re big fans,” he explained.
