US heat wave: Social media users try to make light of scorching temperatures

A heat wave is sweeping through the nation, and social media users have found entertaining ways to express just how hot it truly is.

Phoenix, Arizona has hit the 18-day mark for temperatures above 110 degrees, and the National Weather Service issued a heat wave advisory for 112 million people in the greater Southwest area last week.

Meanwhile, ocean temperatures in Florida have surged above 90 degrees, threatening coral reefs and leaving Floridians with few options to dodge the oppressive heat and humidity.
Video shared on social media shows several people wielding the hot weather to their advantage, using the dashboards of their cars and the pavement in front of their homes as heat sources for cooking.

While some have embraced the heat, other videos show people seeking out innovative ways to cool down.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will not abate anytime soon.

“Unfortunately, the long-term outlook for the region shows a continued heatwave through this weekend and into next week,” the agency said of the Southwest.
The NWS advises residents in the heat advisory zone to consider postponing or rescheduling any strenuous outdoor activities, and for anyone who must be outside, they stress drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in the shade.
