WATCH: Rep. James Comer suggests ‘Twitter Files’ show government ’cover-up’

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) suggested information contained in the “Twitter Files” released over the weekend indicate “a cover-up at the highest levels of government to protect Joe Biden.”
Comer, the ranking member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, told Fox & Friends First on Monday that Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s information release, which included the social media platform’s behind-the-scenes musings on the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story, showed “election interference.”

“It is election interference,” Comer said, noting the impact the new information will have on the House Oversight and Reform Committee’s investigation. “The only thing that has changed with respect to our Biden family influence-peddling investigation is the fact that there is more credibility as to why we in fact need to investigate the Bidens.”
Comer suggested that James Baker, former counsel for the FBI under the 2016 Russia collusion investigation who was then brought in to serve as Twitter counsel, may have received directives from a government entity, such as the FBI, to suppress the laptop story.
The Republican said both Baker and former Twitter executive Vijaya Gadde would be called before the House Oversight and Reform Committee in early 2023.
“They need to look very hard to try to find evidence as to why they suppressed the story,” Comer said. “If they can’t find evidence from a government entity, like the FBI, saying to, in fact, suppress the story, then my next bit of advice for them would be to contact their errors and omission insurance company because they’re going to have a lot of problems moving forward because this was such an important story.”
“This was the cover-up of the highest level of the government to protect Joe Biden,” Comer added. “Let’s remember what they’re protecting here. They’re protecting the laptop and the contents of the laptop, which show not only did Joe Biden know full well what his son and his brothers were doing with respect to influence-peddling with our adversaries, it shows Joe Biden was very involved with this effort. This is something that should concern every American.”

Comer added that Republicans are focused on investigating the role that Big Tech overall plays in suppressing information.
He said he expects that additional information will be produced suggesting the Biden administration was even more involved in the suppression of free speech.
