Arizona officials ramp up investigation against state GOP over 2020 election: Report

Arizona‘s Democratic attorney general, Kris Mayes, is reportedly charging ahead with a criminal investigation into state Republicans over allegations of attempting to overturn the 2020 election.
Mayes and state prosecutors are reportedly making progress in the case against Arizona Republicans who claimed the last presidential election was stolen from former President Donald Trump, according to the Washington Post.

Since the criminal investigation began in May, the prosecuting team has contacted many of Trump’s electors and their lawyers and requested records and other information from local election officials, according to the report. They have also inquired about evidence gathered by the Justice Department and a prosecutor in Atlanta, both investigating similar cases.
To overturn election results in the state, Arizona GOP official allegedly signed and transmitted paperwork that claimed Donald Trump beat President Joe Biden in 2020.
Dan Barr, chief deputy for Mayes, told the Washington Post that the investigation remains in its “fact-gathering” stage.

“This is something we’re not going to go into thinking, ‘Maybe we’ll get a conviction,’ or, ‘Maybe we have a pretty good chance,’” he said. “This has to be ironclad shut.”
The Washington Examiner reached out to Mayes’s office for comment.
