Some members of Congress from the infamous far-left group widely known as “The Squad” challenged the celebration of Independence Day this Fourth of July. A historic day with significant and deep-rooted meanings, these representatives want to change the way Americans view Independence Day.

In a tweet posted on the Fourth of July, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) said, “The Declaration of Independence was written by enslavers and didn’t recognize Black people as human. Today is a great day to demand Reparations Now.”

MARRIAGE IS THE TRUE CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE OF OUR TIME

The anti-American and anti-freedom messages in this tweet are clear.

Through her statement, Bush aims to change the meaning of the Fourth of July from a day of celebrating the freedom to one marking slavery. For one, she refuses to acknowledge that those who fought hard for our freedom were our founding fathers.

She labels them as mere “enslavers,” and disrespects the efforts that so many Americans made to free us from unjust rule. In addition, she stoops down to a level where she demands reparations for black people by openly declaring that Independence Day is the perfect tool to do so. Bush needs a history lesson because the signing of the Declaration of Independence gave rise to the abolitionist movement, which ultimately freed the slaves.

Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), another member of “The Squad,” took to Twitter saying, “This July 4th, we must remember that we stand on stolen land toiled by enslaved Africans and recommit ourselves to the fight for freedom, equality, & justice so that these ideals are accessible to everyone, not just a privileged few. We are not free until everyone is truly free.”

Through this tweet, Bowman aims to eliminate the angle of freedom from Independence Day and inject a slavery-attached meaning of suffering.

Legally speaking, in the real world, every American has the same set of freedoms. Yet, Bowman argues that we need to recommit to the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice by making them accessible to everyone instead of just a “privileged few.”

Nobody will ever know who Bowman is referring to when he claims that only a “privileged few” get to enjoy our American freedoms and that there are some of us out there who are supposedly not free yet. It’s because this group of a “privileged few” does not exist. If anything, the President’s son Hunter Biden is the only man who has enjoyed fleeing the justice system.

This kind of rhetoric gives out the wrong message to young Americans who are taught to hate America and despise our history.

Rather than learning from our past and celebrating the great American success along with the efforts of those who fought to gift us our precious freedoms, these Members of Congress want to make our Independence Day a partisan political issue. It is abhorrent to paint Independence Day in a negative light for political brownie points.
