House Oversight panel seeks briefing from Secret Service on cocaine found in White House

The House Oversight Committee is in the process of requesting a briefing from the Secret Service on the cocaine that was found in the West Wing of the White House on Sunday night, a spokesperson for the committee confirmed.
The briefing will be on the Secret Service’s security procedures at the White House because Congress funds the security processes the Secret Service uses before people enter the White House grounds, the spokesperson said.

This briefing will be unrelated to Oversight’s other investigations, including those involving the Secret Service.
On Sunday, while President Joe Biden and his family were out of town, cocaine was found in the West Wing. At the time, officials were unsure what the white powdery substance was, and it led to a brief evacuation of the White House grounds.

Earlier on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Secret Service confirmed to the Washington Examiner that after undergoing further testing, it was confirmed the substance was cocaine.
According to ABC, the Secret Service is now investigating how the cocaine got into the building. The White House said the cocaine was found in an area of the West Wing that is available to tourists. This contradicts previous reports that it was found in the library.
