Biden meets Prince William amid backdrop of rail protests

President Joe Biden met British royal Prince William on Friday in Boston — but not without controversy.
Biden, 80, and the prince, 40, met at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library near Boston Harbor. But while they shared polite greetings, a group of protesters chastised Biden for his role in averting a rail worker strike.

Roughly 100 protesters gathered near the men and shouted their displeasure at both, firing “f*** the royal family” at Prince William and “Joe Biden is a scab” at the president.
Others shouted, “Let’s Go Brandon!”, according to the Daily Mail.
Biden signed a bill Friday morning that prevented the strike, calling it the “right thing to do.” But the deal upset some unions, which are some of the president’s strongest supporters, for not including an increase in sick leave.
The Prince of Wales is visiting Boston to host the Earthshot Awards, while Biden is in town for a fundraiser for Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA).

Congress has the power to avert the strike in this situation because rail strikes are governed by the Railway Labor Act of 1926 instead of the National Labor Relations Act. Congress has the authority to intervene and force the unions to accept the agreement’s terms.
Despite pushing for Congress to preserve the deal that does not include paid sick days, Biden has said he would push for more paid leave in the future.
