More than 200,000 immigrants were arrested after illegally crossing the southern border in May, according to the most recent numbers released last week by the Department of Homeland Security. That is a slight decline from the 211,000 arrested in April but still far short of the completely fabricated 70% decline the White House has been feeding to the press.

The reality is that the 204,561 illegal immigrants encountered on the southern border last month is almost 10 times the number apprehended in former President Donald Trump’s last May in office, and it is still far more than local border communities and sanctuary cities across the country can handle.

LAB LEAK INTEL EXPOSES DISINFORMATION POLICE

It does appear President Joe Biden is turning more migrants away at the border since Title 42 expired on May 11, but he is still catching and releasing tens of thousands of illegal immigrants into the country every month. And that number doesn’t even include the additional 30,000 a month that are being flown in illegally from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela through Biden’s completely illegal parole program. Add that 30,000 to the 204,000 encountered at the border, and the stream of illegal immigrants into the country hasn’t decreased at all.

And this steady flow of illegal immigrants is straining community resources thousands of miles from the border. Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared a state of emergency to deal with the constant influx of illegal immigrants. It is estimated that New York City will spend $4 billion on housing for illegal immigrants alone. And Illinois’s healthcare spending on illegal immigrants has ballooned from $200 million a year to over $1 billion.

In theory, all these costs will end after the immigrants’ asylum cases are resolved. But not only will it take years for the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review even to begin to hear all of these cases — many immigrants’ first court dates aren’t until 2027 — but even after their cases are resolved, if a Democrat is still president, no effort will be made to remove them from the country.

Unless there is a change in leadership in the White House, all of the illegal immigrants allowed into the country while Biden is president will stay in this country for as long as they want, whether they qualify for asylum or not. No Democratic president will ever make any effort to track down any illegal immigrant in the United States. Migrants around the world know this is true, and that is why they keep coming.

Voters have not been fooled by Democrats’ claims that the border crisis has been solved. Just this week, Pew Research Center released a new poll showing disapproval of Biden’s handling of the border at an all-time high of 73%, including 62% of Democrats. Almost half, 47%, said illegal immigration is a “very big problem,” up from 38% just last year. These numbers will only go up as more illegal immigrants are released into the country and the financial burden of housing, feeding, educating, and providing healthcare for them only rises.

It didn’t have to be this way. Biden could have just continued the successful “Remain in Mexico” policies of the previous administration. When it became obvious, just months into his presidency, that his border policies were a disaster, there were some in the White House who pushed for a return to sanity. But those voices lost. The leftist, open-border staff won. And our nation has been paying the price ever since.
