The median payment per household member is $192, and the maximum payment for a household of one is $281. A household of eight can receive a maximum allotment of $1,691, according to the state’s Children and Family Services department.

In Louisiana, 822,600 residents, or 18% of the state population, benefited from SNAP in 2022, per The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. At a national level, 12% of the total United States population participates in SNAP. On average, SNAP households received around $240 a month in the years 2019 and 2020.

If eligible applicants for SNAP benefits are active, the monthly amount should be available for use through an Electronic Benefits Transfer card, which can be swiped at checkout in grocery stores, similar to debit cards.

Louisiana beneficiaries can check the status of SNAP, the next available benefit date, recent transaction history, and other additional information through the LifeInCheck portal. More resources for SNAP and other services can be found through the Department of Children and Family Services or by calling 1-888-LAHELP-U.
