Texas tornadoes kill three people and wound ten others

Three people are dead and ten others are injured after multiple tornadoes rolled through northern Texas Wednesday evening.
The victims were in the northern town of Matador, which suffered widespread damage due to the storms. The tornadoes also reportedly caused several people to be trapped due to the destroyed debris.

Pat Smith, the mayor of Matador, who also provides emergency medical services in the town, told the New York Times at least three people were killed, and others were injured.
Tornado warnings were issued for nearby counties Wednesday evening as well, such as Dickens and King counties, while the tornado around Matador was already on the ground. “Take cover now if you are in the path of this storm,” the National Weather Service Lubbock tweeted. A thunderstorm warning was also issued for Matador.
The fire department in Lubbock, about 70 miles southwest of Matador, said it was sending help with rescue efforts to the town, per NBC News. Tornadoes were also reported in Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming on Wednesday.

The tornadoes in the Rolling Plains came less than a week after tornadoes struck the small city of Perryton in the Texas panhandle and killed three people and injured dozens of others.
Tornadoes are most common in Texas from April to June, according to the Texas Standard.
