Twitter CEO and billionaire business magnate Elon Musk declared Wednesday that the terms “cis” and “cisgender” will now be regarded as slurs on Twitter.

“Cis” and “cisgender” is frequently used by members of the LGBT community as a marker for anyone who identifies with their biological sex and gender.

Many outside the LGBT community have criticized the term as derogatory.

“Repeated, targeted harassment against any account will cause the harassing accounts to receive, at minimum, temporary suspensions,” Musk tweeted.

“The words ‘cis’ or ‘cisgender’ are considered slurs on this platform.”

Musk made the announcement in response to a tweet from James Esses, a commentator who analyzes the impact of ideology on society.

“Yesterday, after posting a Tweet saying that I reject the word ‘cis’ and don’t wish to be called it, I receive a slew of messages from trans activists calling me ‘cissy’ and telling me that I am ‘cis’ ‘whether or not I like it,'” Esses posted.

“Just imagine if the roles were reversed.”

After his announcement, Musk faced a slew of questions.

“Hey @elonmusk, what if someone self-IDs as cis? Is it still a slur? Asking for some friends,” one Twitter user asked.

“Call yourself anything you want,” Musk replied.
