Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is focused on defeating President Joe Biden in a 2024 matchup, saying, “The left is gonna absolutely destroy this country even more than it is” if Biden remains in office.

DeSantis touted his Florida voting record of having won the 2022 gubernatorial election by a margin of 20 points, saying he garnered a record of Hispanics and Republican women voters “with bold colors, not with pale pastels.” The Florida governor’s comments came in an interview clip with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody, which airs in full on Friday.

The Florida governor has consistently polled as the No. 2 choice for Republican voters for the Republican nomination for president in 2024.

DeSantis said he turned Florida from a purple state to a red state “through bold leadership,” adding Republicans must do the same nationally to beat Biden.

DeSantis has passed several laws that restrict gender identity and sexual orientation discussion in schools and bar transgender youth from accessing gender-related treatment. DeSantis said he is the only elected official in the nation who “actually beat the Left back on these things.”

The feud between Disney and DeSantis has become a common talking point among the conservative movement, with DeSantis criticizing other Republicans for “taking the side of Disney.”

“We stood our ground on that, and we beat Disney and signed that into law, and we ended Disney’s self-governing status,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis and former President Donald Trump are the two GOP front-runners.

When asked if he thought Trump was “going soft” on abortion, the governor called out the former president for saying Florida’s recently enacted six-week abortion ban was “too harsh.”

Trump said in an interview with the Messenger that “many people within the pro-life movement feel that that was too harsh.” He was referring to the passage of Florida’s six-week abortion ban.

DeSantis signed the Heartbeat Protection Act into law in April, prohibiting legislation after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.

DeSantis said, “Pro-lifers have wanted it for a long time” but that Trump “never complimented, never said anything about it.”

“If we can do half of what we did in Florida up in Washington, we are going to be in really good shape as a country,” DeSantis said.
