While the Oklahoma Sooners softball team celebrates its national championship, it is the players’ message of faith that is drawing the most attention.

Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-OK) praised the softball players’ willingness to share their faith despite the Left’s “trying to attack these religious freedoms and these beliefs of these young college softball players.”

“I’m just so proud of them. That’s their third straight national championship, and coach Patty Gasso is just an amazing leader, but that’s what we believe,” Stitt told Fox and Friends. “This is just amazing to me. The joy of the Lord is our strength.”

“That’s the great thing about our country,” Stitt added. “We’ve got freedom of religion.”

Ahead of the Sooners winning their third straight softball national championship last week, several of the players shared during a press conference that their strategy included “fixing our eyes on Christ.”

“I think a huge thing that we’ve really just latched on to is, ‘Eyes up,’” utility player Alyssa Brito said in a video that has gone viral. “You guys see us doing this and pointing up, but we’re really, like, fixing our eyes on Christ.”

“Thankfully, we’ve had a lot of success this year, but if it was the other way around, joy from the Lord is the only thing that can keep you embracing those memories, moments, friendships,” infielder Grace Lyons said.

“We worked our butts off to be here,” utility player Jayda Coleman added. “We want to win, but it’s not the end of the world because our life is in Christ, and that’s all that matters.”

The video of the players’ comments has been viewed nearly 560,000 times, with many complimenting their boldness.

“This is great. Not easy to do especially in this day and age and they do it with ease,” one person tweeted. “Amazing young women.”

“AWESOME!!!!!!!!” another tweeted. “I have to admit I was rooting against OU the whole tournament, mostly because they were breaking U of A records, but never again. Fan for life.”

The Sooners softball team defeated Florida State 3-1 in the Women’s College World Series finale after capping off their regular season record of 61-1.
