Donald Trump indicted: What to know ahead of former president’s Miami arraignment

Former President Donald Trump will be arraigned at a federal courthouse in Miami, Florida, on Tuesday, after being indicted last week on charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
As the former president and current front-runner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary is set to be arraigned for a second time this year, here is what you need to know.

When will Trump be arraigned?
Trump is scheduled to be arraigned at a federal courthouse in Miami at 3 p.m. local time.
What is Trump being charged with?
The former president was charged with 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one count of withholding a document or record, one count of corruptly concealing a document or record, one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation, one count for a scheme to conceal, and one count related to alleged false statements.
Will there be a mug shot of Trump? Will he be fingerprinted?
At this time, it is unknown if a mug shot will be taken of Trump, but he did not have a mug shot taken when he was arraigned in New York City in April.
Even if Trump does have a mug shot taken, it is unknown if the image will be released to the public as the Department of Justice tends to not release mug shots of individuals.
It is also likely that Trump will be fingerprinted tomorrow as he was also fingerprinted at his arraignment in New York.
Who is the judge overseeing the case?
Judge Aileen Cannon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, who was appointed by Trump in November 2020, was assigned to oversee the case. Cannon, who previously issued rulings favoring Trump, was reportedly randomly assigned to the case.
It is unknown at this time if Cannon will oversee the initial hearing or if another judge will oversee the first court appearance for Trump on Tuesday. The docket says the initial appearance on Tuesday is set to be before an “MIA Duty Magistrate Judge.”
Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres granted orders to seal and unseal the indictment, per the docket.
Will Trump speak after the arraignment?
Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks from the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, at 8:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday, his campaign announced Sunday.

After his arraignment in Manhattan in April for charges related to allegedly falsifying business records for hush money payments given to two women in 2016, Trump spoke from his Mar-a-Lago resort that evening.
Trump was the first former or current president to be indicted after he was charged in the case in New York, but he is also now the first to be federally indicted as a result of the classified documents case.
