Republican women had different views from their male counterparts on the issue of gun control, per a recent poll.

The AllInTogether/Echelon Insights poll, published Sunday, found that 61% of Republican women support restricting certain types of gun purchases, but only 41% of Republican men reported the same. Additionally, 70% of Republican women agreed to limiting gun purchases to those 21 years old and over, compared to 63% of men with the same political leaning.

“There are plenty of issues where we see GOP men and women are very aligned in their views. But on guns, there’s a gender gap emerging,” pollster Kirsten Soltis said. “GOP women seem increasingly open to some changes to the laws on the books.”

AllInTogether Founder Lauren Leader wrote in a tweet that the results of the poll show “that women across the political spectrum are more united than one might think on the solution to gun violence.”

Half of women respondents reported that guns are their No. 1 issue. Some 47% of Republican women, 42% of independent women, and 57% of Democratic women marked the issue at the top of their list. This was higher than abortion, at 49% overall, and the cost of living at 48%.

Some 1,277 likely voters nationwide were surveyed with a margin of error of 4.1 for the results on women and 3.4 overall.

President Joe Biden has repeatedly asked Congress to consider “common sense gun safety laws” and “stand up to the gun lobby.”

This poll suggests Biden might be more in line with Republican women than one might think.

One poll out of Georgia currently has Biden in a near-even tie with former President Donald Trump, who is campaigning for the Republican nomination. Another poll has Biden’s opponent for the Democratic nomination Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s candidacy supported by 52% of Democrats, with 32% opposed and 16% not sure.
