The Church of Compassion in El Cajon, California, has partnered with the Department of Agriculture for over 20 years to help feed poor children who attend the church’s day care and preschool programs.
But no more.
ANOTHER STEP TO BECOMING THE PARENT PARTY
The Biden administration has redefined “sex” to include sexual orientation and gender identity, meaning this Christian preschool must submit to transgender ideology on bathrooms, pronouns, dress code, and hiring or lose its right to participate in the program.
The Church of Compassion has chosen to stand by its beliefs. In response, the Biden administration has ended its participation in the Child and Adult Food Care Program.
“The government is withholding food from families in need simply because their children attend a Christian preschool. This violates the U.S. Constitution and multiple federal laws that protect Church of Compassion and its preschool to operate according to the dictates of their faith,” Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel Jeremiah Galus said in a statement. ADF is representing the Church of Compassion in a lawsuit alleging the Biden administration has violated the church’s First Amendment rights.
“Ironically, in the name of combatting discrimination, government officials have excluded the church and preschool from serving the El Cajon community based solely on their religious beliefs and exercise,” Galus continued. “This is antithetical to the First Amendment’s promise of religious freedom and only hurts needy families and children.”
The Church of Compassion’s day care and preschool, called Dayspring, receives around $4,000 a month from the Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Food Care Program to feed about 40% of its 112 students. Teachers at the school are required to sign a statement of faith when they are hired and regularly read and explain Bible stories to the children.
Dayspring does not discriminate against any child or family. In fact, several LGBT couples send their children to the school. The school does, however, maintain sex-separated bathrooms and dress codes for boys and girls based on their biological differences. Neither teachers nor students are expected to use any child’s or employee’s “preferred” pronoun that does not correspond to biological sex.

For literally thousands of years, it was not only legal but normal for schools of all kinds to acknowledge the basic realities of the biological differences between boys and girls. Now President Joe Biden is using every ounce of the federal government’s power to smash that traditional understanding of the world.
Hopefully, ADF will convince the courts he’s overstepping his bounds.
