DeSantis closes in on Trump in another state-level poll as GOP field grows

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is neck and neck with former President Donald Trump in Utah, according to a poll that shows the Florida governor keeping pace with the former president.
A Deseret News-Hinckley Institute poll shows Trump with 27% in the Republican presidential primary in the Beehive State and DeSantis with 26%. The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.78 percentage points.

Behind the two Florida men, former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney has 7%, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has 5%, former Vice President Mike Pence has 5%, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has 4%, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has 3%, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has 3%, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson has 1%.
Cheney has not said whether she will run for president, and Cruz has also not said if he would make a 2024 run. The others are all declared candidates.
Recent polls have shown DeSantis has made gains in several key states, such as Texas and Iowa, but he still remains in second place behind the former president.
Polls from two PACs showed that DeSantis gained 14 points on Trump in both Texas and Iowa.

Trump leads DeSantis in the RealClearPolitics polling average by more than 30%, but all polls in the average were conducted prior to DeSantis’s campaign announcement on May 24.
In the polling average, Haley is in a distant third, followed closely behind by Pence, who announced his run for the White House on Wednesday.
