Why the anti-DeSantis hysteria among gay people is unfounded

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has an anti-gay reputation in Democratic circles, but it is undeserved. DeSantis’s war on woke has included a series of bold moves such as solidifying parental rights in education and banning innocent children from attending drag shows. These sound like commonsense laws to most, but a key section of the American population fails to understand that.

The Democrats’ agenda to defame the Florida governor is out in the open, as seen first when they termed the Parental Rights in Education Bill the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” even though the bill does not do that. They have even labeled DeSantis the “public enemy” of LGBT individuals. The Human Rights Campaign issued a bizarre advisory warning LGBT people not to travel to Florida. A press release dated May 17 outlines their misguided arguments against DeSantis’s administration, but here is why these laws make sense.

VIOLENCE AGAINST TEACHERS CANNOT BE TOLERATED

HB 1069 outlines requirements on classroom instruction, which are tied to, as explicitly stated in the bill, “human chromosomes, naturally occurring hormones, biochemically verified sex disorders,” or in simple terms, biology. The bill even outlines appropriate exceptions for classroom instruction in prekindergarten through eighth grade that is tied to a previous law. For example, instruction on the benefits of sexual abstinence and the consequences of teenage pregnancy is allowed.

SB 254 outlines the legal consequences faced by medical practitioners who subject minors to sex reassignment prescriptions and procedures which commonly include hormone and steroid therapy aiming to alter the biochemical composition of a person, forcing their internal organs to release hormones in quantities that are not naturally suitable for their biological sex. It is important to note that minors don’t reach mental or physical maturity until much later.

SB 1438 outlines the legal consequences that public establishments would face should they admit a minor to adult live performances, and reasonably so considering their sexually-explicit nature. The bill explicitly states cases in which events “depict or simulate nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement, or lewd conduct and exposure of prosthetic or imitation genitals or breasts.”

Nowhere do these bills mention terms like “gay” or “LGBT.” Yet the Democrats have tried their best to stir controversy around laws meant to protect children. If the LGBT movement really perceives these laws as a threat to celebrating pride, they ought to reassess their motivations behind Pride festivals in the first place. To claim the celebration of their historical victories in securing equal rights is different from hosting drag events and exposing minors to sexual conduct.

The gay rights movement started off with just the “LGB,” wherein individuals fought for equal rights. Now that it has been achieved, there is no reason to include the “TQ+” indoctrination of innocent children through certain social cleavages that have hijacked what used to be merely a fight for equal rights. Not enough attention is being paid to movements such as the “LGBdroptheT.” If gender and sexuality are two different things, then why have social cleavages like transgenders be paired up with gays and lesbians in “LGBTQ+?”

Interestingly, DeSantis has never stated his opposition toward gay or even transgender people. Rather, he has reiterated this fact multiple times during interviews. All Republicans ask is to protect minors from sexualization and exposure to obscene concepts like sexual drag performances. Why and how is that such a crime in today’s America? With countries like Uganda adopting draconian laws against LGBT individuals, including the death penalty, the Democrats’ complaints are first-world problems. Gay people should focus on living regular lives just like everyone else, considering we all have the same rights today. The sexual indoctrination of children through drag events is nothing but a corrupting force in society, and DeSantis and other Republicans are not wrong in fighting against this. The aim is really just to keep America sane, but it looks like an upward battle in today’s day and age.
