Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) bashed Target over its recent LGBT merchandise controversy, saying that the company is “tearing down this country.”
In an appearance on Fox & Friends, Noem lambasted the company over its ties to controversial groups. Co-host Steve Doocey mentioned how one group Target is tied to called for “demilitarizing” the military and, relevant to Noem’s state, shutting down Mount Rushmore, because they believe it’s a “symbol for White Supremacy.”

Noem took particular issue with the attack on South Dakota’s most famous site.
“Well, Steve, it’s crazy,” she said. “They want to take away Mount Rushmore, shut it down, eliminate it. And it has long been an institution of what America stands for.”
She later took to Twitter to pledge that she would defend the iconic monument.
“Target’s leftist execs support giving away Mount Rushmore,” she tweeted. “Not on my watch. America’s symbol of Freedom will endure.”

In her Fox & Friends appearance, Noem described the Target-affiliated group calling for Mount Rushmore’s destruction as “anti-America, anti-military, anti-cop, anti-Veteran,” and “anti-Israel.”‘
The South Dakota governor then appeared to signal approval for the conservative boycott against Target, saying that her family now refuses to shop there.
“It’s dangerous, and Steve, I’m like a lot of Americans, love to shop at Target. I mean, we do, but we just can’t anymore,” she said. “And while the rest of the country is worried about, you know, having fun and going out and shopping and enjoying a store, that store is fundamentally tearing down this country.”

“And we have to have real conversations about how serious we are about protecting our freedom,” Noem added.
Target’s stock has plummeted by over $9 billion in value over the past month, apparently as a result of conservative outrage over the connections and merchandise of the store.
