Colorado Democrats admit they want to take your guns

A gun control advocacy group known as Here 4 the Kids wants Gov. Jared Polis (D-CO) to ban all guns in his state. Yes, all of them.
The group drafted an executive order that would impose a “total ban” on firearms for 30 days and a buyback program with the government. These would be followed by restrictions within 30 days to punish residents for gun possession and ensure the continued absence of firearms from public life in the state.

“I further declare that as the Governor of this great State of Colorado, I find it unacceptable and inhumane to expect children and teenagers to spend their days fearing for their safety, even in their homes, because of the prevalence of gun violence we now see every day,” the draft reads. “This Executive Order is further declared in recognition of the extreme grief the families of those slain by gun violence in Colorado must endure on a daily basis.”
Simply put, their goals are unachievable. Colorado officials already struggle to keep up with the state’s sprawling black market of firearms and could not possibly disarm every resident. Even if they did, illegal guns would undoubtedly continue to pour in from other states, as they do across the country.
Facts such as these won’t make a dent in the absolutist vision of gun control lobbyists, who seem to view the weapons themselves as the source of various social ills. Here 4 the Kids even cites gun suicides as a reason for abolishing them, as if this will keep troubled individuals from finding ways to kill themselves.
One would think that a group with such ambitious political goals would want the widest possible tent of supporters and collaborate with those who don’t share their views on unrelated issues. But its website, littered with social justice talking points, makes it clear that no one outside of the far Left belongs in the movement.
One especially ironic sentence on the homepage declares, “The Second Amendment was born of white supremacy and anti-Blackness.” In reality, some of the most enthusiastic supporters of gun control in earlier centuries were racists and Ku Klux Klan members who saw it as a way to make black Americans defenseless.

Fast forward to today, and the Second Amendment is still crucial for protecting the right of self-defense. For each of the six mass shootings the activists mention in their document, one can find just as many examples of people in Colorado using guns to protect themselves in dangerous situations such as home invasions and violent encounters. In the dangerous world envisioned by the far Left, however, law-abiding residents would be sitting ducks against illegally-armed individuals who have nothing to fear from unarmed police.
Activists behind this push are reportedly aware that their proposals plainly violate both the Colorado and U.S. Constitutions. As one protester put it, their goal is “getting the ball rolling and starting the conversation” on gun reform. But their narrow approach to reducing gun-related tragedies and ideologically charged rhetoric do a lot more to shut down reasonable conversation than anything.
