California has been a sanctuary state since 2017, committed to being a haven for illegal immigrants regardless of where they come from. Unless they are escorted there by Florida. Then there must be a full investigation.

More than a dozen illegal immigrants arrived in Sacramento via private plane, and California officials were outraged. According to California Attorney General (and possible 2026 gubernatorial candidate) Rob Bonta, “Today I met with over a dozen migrants who were brought to Sacramento by private plane, with no prior arrangement or care in place. We are investigating the circumstances by which these individuals were brought to California. We are also evaluating potential criminal or civil action against those who transported or arranged for the transport of these vulnerable immigrants.”

“No prior arrangement or care in place?” Does the sanctuary state of California require reservations now?

Bonta said the illegal immigrants had documentation “purporting to be from” Florida and heavily implied that Florida perpetrated “state-sanctioned kidnapping.” Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) also painted this situation as kidnapping. The illegal immigrants were taken to Sacramento, which has been a sanctuary city since 1985. The mayor of Sacramento welcomed these illegal immigrants by accusing Florida of human trafficking.

The insinuation in these types of accusations is that states such as Florida, Texas, and Arizona must have lied to illegal immigrants to get them to want to travel by bus (or, in this case, a private plane) to sanctuary cities or states such as Chicago, New York City, or California. It never seems to be an option that officials in the aforementioned GOP-run states simply relayed to illegal immigrants what Democrats have been saying about their sanctuary cities all along: that they are wanted there and will be protected.

So if Florida officials told illegal immigrants California is a sanctuary state that will welcome and protect them, and those illegal immigrants decided to head to California, were they being misled? Does California no longer believe the sanctuary state commitment it made?

Or is California simply scared of the toll on resources that Chicago and New York City have seen with the repeated arrivals of illegal immigrants from border communities, and thus wants to discourage Florida, and anyone else, from subjecting California to the same consequences? Why else would state officials be jumping to human trafficking accusations while complaining that the state didn’t get “any advance warning” about their arrival?

California’s complaints are hypocritical, as was the case with other Democratic-run sanctuary cities that previously were sent illegal immigrants by border communities. Border towns in Texas don’t get much “advance warning” about just how many people are illegally crossing the border they must now be asked to care for because of policies supported by California’s Democratic leaders.

California is just fine with encouraging human trafficking with its preferred border policies, right up until a private plane delivers some illegal immigrants to its doorstep without a reservation. Maybe that attitude is part of the problem at the border in the first place.
