Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass is a coward. After sharing a video on his Instagram account that called for Christians to boycott Bud Light and retail chain Target because of their radical marketing campaigns pandering to the LGBT community, Bass reversed course and caved. On Tuesday, he (needlessly) apologized for posting the video because doing so was “hurtful to the Pride community.”

“I recognize, yesterday, I made a post that was hurtful to the Pride community, which includes friends of mine, close family members of mine, and I am truly sorry for that,” Bass said in a brief statement to the media on Tuesday evening.

A DEBT LIMIT WIN FOR THE GOP

“I just spoke with my teammates and shared with them my actions yesterday, and I apologized with them, and, as of right now, I am using the Blue Jays’ resources to better educate myself to make better decisions moving forward,” he said.

It was a disappointing action, but unfortunately, it was also the typical kind of retreat conservatives and Republicans have become all too familiar with on cultural issues. Bass was worried about being hurtful to the Pride community, but why does it seem no one is ever worried about hurting the Christian community? There wasn’t any real reason Bass needed to make these statements. He just didn’t have enough courage to stand up for his alleged beliefs and principles.

The country has been inundated with anti-Christian, pro-LGBT messaging for the last few years. The Los Angeles Dodgers openly embraced a comedy troupe that specifically targets and ridicules Catholics, yet Bass posting a video supporting boycotts against Target and Bud Light was wrong? What happened to leftists supporting athletes’ rights to freedom of speech the way they did when NFL players were kneeling during the anthem?

If leftists didn’t have double standards, they would have none at all. And as for Bass, people should scold him for his cowardly actions. He had more conviction whining about his wife having to clean up his children’s mess on an airplane than he did about an Instagram post. He showed the entire country his true character — or lack thereof.
