Four-month-old girl dies after staying at NYC migrant hotel

A 4-month-old girl of an illegal immigrant family died Thursday after authorities found her unconscious at a midtown Manhattan hotel being used to house migrants.
The New York City Police Department responded to the Stewart Hotel around 7:30 a.m. and discovered the infant was not breathing, according to a report.

She was the daughter of immigrants from Ecuador and was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.
The death showed no signs of mistreatment, and foul play is not suspected, authorities said.
An official autopsy has been ordered for Friday, the report noted.
The infant’s family came to the Stewart Hotel on Seventh Avenue in January, and her death is not the first time the location has been in the news since it began housing illegal immigrants.
At least 10 immigrants staying at the hotel were charged with assault and disorderly conduct in early May.
Democratic Mayor Eric Adams said 300 to 550 illegal immigrants are bused to New York City every day, and the flood of immigrants is costing the city upwards of $4 billion, according to the report.
The crisis is overwhelming city officials and response personnel.

“We’re not going to be disrespected,” a former NYPD captain said, the report noted.
“There is too much work that needs to be done. My team has sacrificed too much time, energy, and dedication to this city.”
