Why I like Ron DeSantis

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) revealed the worst-kept secret in politics by officially announcing his campaign for president on Wednesday. The campaign kickoff did not go as well as expected, with many technical issues plaguing the highly anticipated Twitter Spaces event. Nevertheless, DeSantis does have an impressive resume of accomplishments during his time in Congress and as governor that appeals to many Republican voters.
Personally, I am not a fan of putting support behind any candidate this early in the game. Despite a Game of Thrones-like push for loyalty from former President Donald Trump’s campaign and supporters, I want to see how each candidate fares in the primary debates. It is something I encourage all Republican voters to do. After all, it was the 2016 primary debates that helped Trump win over a lot of voters after many did not take his candidacy seriously. And, given the threat that President Joe Biden presents to the future of the country, as far as I am concerned, the more strong candidates for the Republican primary, the better. Competition typically improves things, not make them worse.

That being said, here is why I like Ron DeSantis. He has faced a litany of tests during his time as governor and has aced many, if not all, of them, whether it was national emergencies from hurricanes, counting votes during elections, or refusing to acquiesce to the totalitarian-like demands of Democrats during the COVID pandemic.
And, given the intense left-wing assault on the country’s norms and values, now and in the future, we need a Republican who will stand firm and not relent to the attacks from Democrats and their left-wing allies.
The Left hated him for it and regularly scolded him to the point of even insinuating he was an accomplice to people dying. Democrats’ henchmen in the legacy media frequently ran hit pieces on him and his decision-making, but DeSantis stood tall and did not surrender. And, as we all found out later, much of what Democrats were claiming to be true during COVID, a lot of which DeSantis rejected, turned out to be disastrously incorrect.

Additionally, from Bud Light to Disney to “woke” politicians, DeSantis has stood up for many social conservative values – a seemingly daunting task considering the track record of many Republican politicians. Whether it was debunking many of the claims of Critical Race Theory, confronting mega-company Disney on its left-wing cultural indoctrination attempts, denouncing radical gender ideology that plagues our country, or defending the right to life and protecting the lives of the unborn, DeSantis has done what many other Republicans talked about doing.
And given the current and forthcoming onslaught by the Left, we are going to need someone who is a relentless fighter. DeSantis has shown to be everything a conservative Republican could and should want in a candidate.
