‘Difficult for me’: Nonbinary The Crown actor decries gendered awards shows

British actor Emma Corrin says awards shows with separate categories for men and women are “difficult” as a nonbinary person.
“I don’t think the categories are inclusive enough at the moment,” Corrin, who is biologically a woman, told the BBC in a radio interview.
Corrin is known primarily for portraying Diana, Princess of Wales, in Netflix’s The Crown.

“It’s difficult for me at the moment trying to justify in my head being nonbinary and being nominated in female categories,” Corrin explained.
The actor further claimed to have “hope for a future” without gendered categories.
Corrin called for more representation of LGBT people in film and television and said that as more LGBT actors take on roles, the awards shows may not have as much of a choice in making the change.
