Trump ‘overpromised and underdelivered,’ leading to midterm election losses: Joe Concha

.

Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha said President Donald Trump’s failed promise to improve the cost of living cost Republicans control of Congress.

“Underpromise, overdeliver is the old saying in sales, right, and in this case, Trump came in and overpromised and underdelivered,” Concha said Wednesday on Fox Business’s The Claman Countdown. “Said he would bring the cost of things down and then clearly that didn’t happen.”

Democrats saw significant wins across the country, flipping Senate seats in Texas, Kansas, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maine. Concha, who previously called election night a “blue tsunami wrapped in a Cat 5 hurricane,” said the Iran war was the “ball game” that drove gas prices to more than $4.

“And that is an advertisement on every street corner,” Concha said. “You drive by it, you see $4.30 for gas, and then when you fill up your tank, and it’s $80 to do it, it’s a reminder regardless of how you vote.”

Concha said this wasn’t the first time that a president lost a lot of seats in a midterm election, saying former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama lost more than 50 seats in the middle of their terms.

While Trump may have introduced some popular policies, such as no tax on tips and Social Security benefits, Concha said gas and food prices brought him down. Voters care about what the president has “done for me lately,” Concha added.

“James Carville said it, what, 34 years ago, ‘It’s the economy, stupid,’” Concha said. “It’s still the economy, stupid. And this was supposed to be Trump’s wheelhouse.”
