Washington Examiner economics columnist Tiana Lowe Doescher slammed Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed for refusing to denounce a controversial ad attacking Israel.
“If you look at that ad, not only is it also antisemitic, it’s also economically illiterate,” Doescher said Saturday on Fox News at Night.
The ad features a grocery store debate between a couple on whether to buy eggs, with a woman stating they needed to set that money aside “for killing Palestinians.” The man responds, saying, “What? I mean, don’t we give Israel $4 billion a year anyways?”
Doescher said the ad wasn’t accurate, considering egg prices have gone down significantly since President Donald Trump took office.
“If you want to talk about policies that the administration has done that have put upward pressure on prices, you would talk about the Strait of Hormuz, not Gaza,” Doescher said.
Rebellion PAC, founded by Cenk Uygur, the uncle of controversial Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, produced the ad. The influencer campaigned with el Sayed ahead of the primaries, and has been accused of antisemitism after saying “America deserved 9/11” in 2019 and supporting the elimination of Israel as part of the “Palestinian resistance.”
Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), el Sayed’s former primary opponent, demanded el Sayed denounce the ad and apologize for his own messaging that Israel was responsible for Michigan’s affordability issues.
El Sayed refused to denounce the ad, instead accusing the congresswoman of relitigating their primary. Steven’s request came before what was meant to be a joint appearance between Stevens, el Sayed, and Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC). Instead, el Sayed has asked the congresswoman to stay away from his remaining campaign events.

Doescher said the conflict in Gaza isn’t affecting affordability in the U.S., and the dispute between the two Democrats shows who el Sayed is.
“It is such a tell from el Sayed that he cannot answer Stevens’s very simple request, which is, ‘Just denounce the substance of the ad,’” Doescher said. “And the reason why he can’t denounce it is because he genuinely believes that the reason why oil prices are high is not because you have the IRGC, which is a terrorist organization trying to throttle global shipping, but because we give our money to the Jews to kill Palestinians.”
