Abdul el Sayed’s chronic, brazen lying

.

Abdul el Sayed, the Michigan Democratic nominee for Senate, says a lot of things that aren’t true. We already knew that he bristles at questions that inconveniently highlight his radicalism, just as he’s temporarily feigning a lack of familiarity with his close friend and campaign surrogate who famously seethed that “America deserved 9/11.”

That bigot, whom el Sayed personally invited onto the campaign trail with him five times, is now dismissively referred to as some “streamer from California.”

How, one wonders, might el Sayed minimize his relationship with his own mother? That’s a relevant question because it turns out that Mother Dearest worked for an organization that was designated by the Treasury Department in 2004 for funneling money to terrorist groups such as Hamas, the Taliban, and, yes, al Qaeda.

That would be the same al Qaeda, by the way, that the aforementioned “California streamer” recently said was “pound for pound” less terroristic than the United States government.

“Court exhibits in the federal case against the group named her more than a dozen times in connection with wire transfers between 1999 and 2002,” Erick Erickson notes, adding that “her brother worked [at the terror-funding outfit] as a bookkeeper.”

When Republican Mike Rogers raised this highly disturbing point during the candidates’ recent debate, el Sayed responded with indignation. “You going after my mom?” he asked pointedly.

This was not, you might notice, a substantive response. It amounted to a how dare you, as if that should be sufficient. But the charge itself was not rebutted. In fact, there was no attempt to rebut it.

A similar pattern has emerged regarding el Sayed’s family connections, plural, to the Muslim Brotherhood, a sinister group that has been banned or designated as a terrorist organization in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and elsewhere.

El Sayed’s own sister has written publicly that their mother was involved in the group and that their family has “long been MB,” the abbreviation for the Muslim Brotherhood.

His father-in-law is prominently linked to multiple Muslim Brotherhood-tied groups — including CAIR, whose executive director openly praised Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, slaughter of civilians in Israel, including dozens of Americans. El Sayed’s sister also cheered that attack.

His sister-in-law was placed on a terrorist watch list during the Obama administration, prompting two lawsuits on her behalf from CAIR, the pro-terrorism hate group mentioned above.

Asked on NBC’s Meet the Press whether his family has any ties whatsoever to the Muslim Brotherhood, el Sayed denied it three times. He gave no refutation of the evidence-based accusation, and NBC’s interviewer didn’t challenge him with any of the available evidence.

Instead, his campaign asserted without evidence that the Muslim Brotherhood allegations had been “repeatedly debunked” by fact-checkers. His campaign also called it “racist” to notice any of the contradictory information it hadn’t bothered to address.

But it is not just el Sayed’s mother (and vaguely referenced others) who apparently has Muslim Brotherhood connections. It is el Sayed himself, including “his own defenses of the Brotherhood, his college membership in a Brotherhood college group, and his donors,” per Erickson’s essay, which marshals a trove of established and confirmed statements and associations.

For what it’s worth, a Muslim Brotherhood publication celebrated el Sayed’s narrow primary victory this summer. He may have underperformed his polling position by 9 points, but he got the win, thrilling his Muslim Brotherhood fan club.

If one is willing to brazenly lie about one’s connections to the Muslim Brotherhood while smearing annoying fact-noticers as “racist,” one is surely willing to lie about many things.

Consider el Sayed’s multiple public claims that he holds Egyptian citizenship. He said this more than once, with cameras rolling. He also listed Egyptian citizenship on an academic resume.

His campaign now insists those statements were made in “error.” They might be lying now. Or he was lying then. The most charitable explanation is that he was confused about his own status, but what grown adult isn’t aware of the citizenship he holds?

El Sayed also told an audience during a previous and unsuccessful political campaign that he is “an immigrant from North Africa.” He is not an immigrant from North Africa. This would appear to be another one of those “errors” that somehow keep bedeviling this man.

El Sayed has also claimed to be a medical doctor on numerous occasions, even though he is not a medical doctor. Yes, he graduated from medical school, but he’s never been licensed to practice medicine.

At the debate, Rogers stated that el Sayed “says he’s a physician. As a matter of fact, if somebody came into his office and he tried to treat that patient, he’d go to jail.” El Sayed did his scoffing routine but didn’t refute the point, as usual.

Rogers was right, as even the left-leaning and Democrat-aligned “fact-checker” PolitiFact had to concede: “He’s never been licensed to practice medicine or treat patients. Michigan law and federal law define a physician as someone licensed to practice.”

This reality has not stopped the shameless candidate from donning a bogus white coat and making medical pronouncements while falsely identifying himself as a physician.

Back in May, el Sayed said, “I’m a doctor. I’m the only person up on this stage that’s ever had to deliver a diagnosis and then [watched] somebody [have] to worry about how they were going to pay for it.” He could not have legally delivered any diagnoses to patients because he has never been a licensed or practicing doctor.

Incidentally, he made this claim in the context of pushing a socialist government takeover of healthcare, which would end private health coverage for nearly 200 million Americans. For good measure, el Sayed is now also lying about his clearly and repeatedly stated position on this issue.

EL SAYED’S CURE FOR GAS PRICES WOULD ONLY MAKE THEM WORSE

He even appears to be lying about the reason he was named Abdul. That’s a lot of lying — or, as el Sayed’s campaign might call it, “statements made in error.”

What else is he lying about?
