Several immigrants in California are being charged by the Justice Department with voter fraud because California has no real safeguards in its election and voter registration processes.
At least 28 immigrants have already been federally charged with voter fraud, and 11 have been arrested. One man from Belize is accused of lying on his voter registration by claiming to be a U.S. citizen and voting in 2020, 2022, and 2024. He, like the other 27 people who have been charged thus far, is in the country legally.
DOJ DEMANDS CALIFORNIA REVIEW LIST OF ‘LIKELY NONCITIZENS’ WHO RECEIVED MAIL-IN BALLOTS
One of the others who has been charged, an Indian national named Kamlesh Shah, is accused of registering to vote and voting in the 2024 election. Shah claims that he showed up to a community center to vote and that none of the poll workers told him he could not. According to Shah, “The election officer over there didn’t say anything about it. He just asked me for my ID and my number.” Shah claims he didn’t know that he was not allowed to vote, and why would he? California election officials gave him a ballot, and noncitizens are allowed to vote in some elections in the state.
How did Shah register to vote, then, you may wonder? California has same-day voter registration, allowing you to show up unregistered and register just before casting your ballot, with your vote counted once your registration is processed. And because legal noncitizens can receive a “Real ID” just as citizens living in California can, Shah had a Real ID that poll workers accepted as valid for the voter registration process.
CALIFORNIA’S DYSFUNCTION SHOULD STAY IN CALIFORNIA
California also has a “motor voter” law, which registers eligible voters when they receive or renew their driver’s licenses and also tends to lead to legal and illegal immigrants who are not eligible to vote being registered. California also refuses to closely examine its voter rolls, with the federal government suing over alleged noncitizens who are registered, such as the 28 who have been charged. And California mails ballots to every person registered to vote (sometimes more than once) and has fought against requiring voter ID.
The problem here is that California Democrats are happy to make registering to vote so easy that noncitizens can easily do so and verifying who is eligible to vote so difficult that they can slip through the cracks for multiple election cycles. California Democrats do not care about the security of the state’s (or the nation’s) elections, and they are fueling distrust.
