Timothy Miller was a 76-year-old Englishman enjoying his retirement. Timothy Miller is now a Muslim woman on bail after being charged with concealing her identity at a political protest. If he is convicted at her trial in February, they face a fine or a month in prison.
In early September, Miller was among the hundreds of protesters who gathered in Portsmouth to protest the British government’s policy of accepting and housing boatloads of illegal immigrants from across the English Channel. Miller attended in the traditional Englishwoman’s finery, a head-to-toe burka in stylishly minimalist black with a matching niqab face-covering, provocatively cut to leave a mailbox slot for her eyes. And his.
A female police officer confronted Miller about his clothing. “It’s because I’m converting to Islam and I’m gender-fluid,” Miller explained, waving a beefy and boldly exposed hand with feminine grace. “I’m not here to make trouble.”
“Deport, deport, deport the f***ing lot,” the protesters shouted. The police retreated.

“If he wants to be a woman, he’s allowed to be a woman,” a protester affirmed, defending England’s ancient customs of tolerance and transvestite comedy.
Miller was standing peaceably in a designated protest area and peaceably following what we all agree is the Religion of Peace. But he was arrested. Though he did not resist, the police seem to have dislodged his niqab as they cuffed him — a possible violation of Islamic modesty and “protected characteristics” under British law. He was charged with a public order offense under the Crime and Policing Act 2026: “the wearing or otherwise using of an item to conceal identity in an area designated by the police.”
On Oct.14, Miller attended court in a burka, this time adding a black handbag and an Afghan-style grille that rendered his face invisible. Representing himself, he pled not guilty. No police cameras or drones show him breaching the peace, he said, and no officer had asked him to remove his face covering. Miller, who has previously lived in Morocco and has visited Bahrain and Dubai, said he has an “enquiring mind”. Islam is reshaping British life, so he is studying Islam and wearing a burka to gain “greater understanding” of life on “this side of the veil.” As he had told the police at the protest, his religious observance granted him legal “exemption.”
Terrorism is the “propaganda of the deed.” Slapstick can be too. Miller’s case proves the existence of a “two-tier” justice system in Britain. The law, the police, and the judiciary grant privileges to favored client groups (gender cultists, trade unions, Muslims, immigrants, non-whites in general) while stigmatizing and prosecuting disfavored ones, especially the white English working class. That is what Miller meant when he said in court that being Muslim is “beneficial” in Britain, and this is what his presence in the dock proves. The 2026 legislation was a Conservative reaction to the pro-Hamas protests that have degraded Britain’s public life after Oct. 7, 2023. It became law under a Labour government that now applies it selectively to anti-immigration protests.
“The issue, quite simply, is: We should all be living under one law,” Miller told the court. “I think we are going down a very dangerous path, questioning people about their religion. I think at the moment Jews are under the same pressure.”
The judge, Stephen Apted, adjourned the case until February and instructed Miller to produce evidence that a man considering reversion to Islam can wear a burka in public as a part of his preparation for an “informed decision.”
Numerous European explorers, including Johann Burckhardt and Richard Burton, masqueraded as Muslim men in order to visit Mecca. The Swiss explorer Isabelle Eberhardt (1877-1904) dressed as a Muslim man prior to converting to Islam. Perhaps most pertinently, Miller’s male-to-female transgender sisters in Islamic societies such as Iran must follow the female dress code. Autogynephiles are costume fetishists, and male-to-female surgical transition is a multistage process. Of course the lads give the burka a tryout before they get the chop. It’s part of the fun.
While Miller researches sex-change surgery in Iran, the rest of us should consider what his case means. Britain’s bumbling politicians have pushed Britain’s bumbling police and bumbling judges to discredit the law. As the pompous and cruel Mr. Bumble says in Dickens’s Oliver Twist when he learns that he is liable for his wife’s errors, “the law is a ass — a idiot.” Beadle goes on to say that “the eye of the law” will be “opened by experience.” Miller’s eye-opening case lifts the veil on how the British state is undermining its legitimacy and rushing Britain to civil breakdown, eyes wide shut.
