President Donald Trump told Minnesotans to “fight back” against Somali immigrants in his latest Truth Social post on Thursday while vowing to provide federal backup if the state needs it.
“The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants. There is Violence, Murder, and Mayhem all over the State. The people of Minnesota must fight back. You have been robbed, and abandoned by your State Government,” Trump wrote before slamming Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN).
“Your Governor is an incompetent thief who doesn’t want to get involved,” the president said. “He just wants to get out of town with as much as he can steal, and then, lead a quiet life. The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back! If you need, the Federal Government will come to your rescue.”
Trump then called on Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to “immediately ask for Federal help” and “leave the rest to us.”
The White House has had its eyes set on the Somali community in Minnesota ever since reports of widespread fraud across the state’s social services programs surfaced late last year. Soon after, Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched “Operation Metro Surge” to crack down on illegal immigration in Minneapolis and the surrounding areas.
While the ICE operation is no longer active, the Trump administration is still investigating fraud allegations in Minnesota. A White House task force, led by Vice President JD Vance, continues probing fraud in federal programs across various states.
Minnesota is home to the largest Somali population in the United States, with over 100,000 people of Somali descent living in the state. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area has a high concentration of that particular demographic, which includes both illegal immigrants and U.S. citizens.
This week, the FBI arrested and charged an 18-year-old American-born citizen of Somali descent for attempting to commit a terrorist attack in support of ISIS at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. The terrorist plot was foiled after an FBI informant supplied the suspect with an AK-47 rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition. The teenager intended to kill between 30 and 60 people, including non-Muslims.

When reporters asked about the planned mass shooting, Trump said, “The FBI did a great job.”
The president has been especially critical of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a Somali-born naturalized U.S. citizen, and the rest of the Somali immigrant population in the country. Trump has called for Omar’s deportation to Somalia as his administration examines whether she should be prosecuted for her alleged involvement in financial fraud. Omar has strongly denied the allegations.
