Spanberger hits the campaign trail to stump for Roy Cooper in neighboring North Carolina

.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) is taking to the campaign trail during the 2026 midterm elections, stumping for Democrat Roy Cooper in the North Carolina Senate race this week.

“Our neighbors to the south are ready to send @RoyCooperNC to the U.S. Senate and elect Democrats across the state,” Spanberger wrote on X Thursday.

Spanberger has campaigned with several 2026 candidates throughout the midterm election season, largely supporting Virginia-based candidates, but she recently extended her campaigning efforts beyond the Old Dominion. She posted several images on social media of herself at a campaign event with the North Carolina Democratic Party on Thursday.

“North Carolina — you can stand up to the chaos coming out of Washington. You can demand more. Make your voice heard. Get out and VOTE,” Spanberger said.

Cooper, North Carolina’s former Democratic governor, is facing off against Republican Michael Whatley in the race to replace retiring Sen. Thom Tillis (D-NC). The Cook Political Report recently shifted its forecast of the race in favor of Cooper, from “lean Democratic” to “likely Democratic.”

WES MOORE HEADS TO VIRGINIA TO STUMP FOR DEMOCRATS IN KEY HOUSE DISTRICTS

The Virginia governor, who won her 2025 election by a double-digit margin, has traveled across Virginia to stump with Democratic House candidates like Beth Macy, who is challenging incumbent Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA); Tom Perriello, who is challenging incumbent Rep. John McGuire (R-VA); and Shannon Taylor, who is challenging Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA). Each of the three Democrats trying to flip the Republican districts has run the Democrats’ 2026 affordability playbook, a wave that Spanberger rode to victory last November.

Outside Virginia, Spanberger also stumped for Democrat Cait Conley, who is challenging Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) and pulling support from big-name national Democrats, like former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
