The LGBT social contagion is in decline

.

The share of young Americans who identify as having various nontraditional sexualities or “gender identities” is declining, an absolute shock for LGBT activists who did not understand that those increases were being driven by social contagion.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Youth Risk Survey of high schoolers has recorded a drop in “LGB” identification among ninth through 12th graders. That drop is driven by a sizable decline in the share of high school girls who identify as bisexual, including a decline from a peak of 26% in 2021 to 13% in 2025 among female high school freshmen.

As it turns out, the cohort of young girls susceptible to social contagions who chose to identify as the flimsiest part of the LGBT acronym during the height of progressive hysteria and COVID-19 lockdowns may have been caught up in a social contagion. Who could have guessed?

As expected, young people over the past few years have sought to become part of a “community” while chasing online and social gratification for their “identity.” That explains the ease with which many chose to become part of the LGBT “community” by claiming to be bisexual or “nonbinary.” A 2025 survey from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression found that the share of college students who identified as something other than male or female fell from 6.8% in 2022 and 2023 to 5.2% in 2024 and 3.6% in 2025.

GENDER IDEOLOGY MAY BE FADING, BUT IT’S STILL HARMING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

In 2023, a whopping 38% of Brown University students claimed to be LGBT, including 9.2% who claimed to be “nonbinary.” By 2025, that nonbinary number had tanked to 2.6%. So, were young people claiming to be nonbinary or bisexual over the past several years so that they could claim access to the LGBT “community” without actually having to change anything about their lives or lifestyles? Or is there some secret conspiracy to suppress bisexuality and nonbinary identities — supposedly normal aspects of human life going back centuries that triumphantly came to life for four years and are now being suppressed once again? Who is to say?

The social contagion was obvious to anyone paying attention, though the LGBT movement fought any insinuation that there wasn’t some natural LGBT awakening among nearly half of the youth population. The progressive movement’s takeover of the culture in 2020, amplified by TikTok, has waned as the years have passed, leading to an unsurprising decline in the number of young people seeking acceptance as supposed members of the movement.
